5 Things We Love About the Nexus 5X
The Price
Starting at just $379, what’s not to love about the Nexus 5X? Smartphones have generally increased in price over the years, with the new Apple iPhone 6 Plus now selling for $749. While you can get most high-end handsets cheaper if you are willing to sign a 2-year agreement, most users prefer NOT to get themselves tied into additional contracts. Google has acknowledged this, and as such, it has priced the Nexus 5X quite reasonably at just $379 for the 16GB model.
The Size
Don’t get me wrong, the Nexus 6 was (and still is) a pretty decent handset. But it also had a major drawback: the size. With a display of nearly 6″, it was just shy of being tablet, making it downright difficult to carry around in your pockets. Thankfully, Google took a few steps back with the Nexus 5X, opting for a slightly smaller 5.2″ display instead. A 0.8″ difference may not seem like much, but trust me, the difference is like night and day. The new Nexus 5X is significantly easier to carry and use, thanks largely to its smaller 5.2″ display.
Fingerprint Sensor
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are the first Nexus handsets to receive a dedicated fingerprint sensor. Located on the rear of the devices just under the camera, this sensor is used for unlocking your device. If you are tired of entering a PIN each time you want to unlock your handset, you can simply enable the fingerprint unlock. It’s a fun and surprisingly accurate method of security. It’s also safe to assume that Google will roll out new apps and features that use the Nexus 5X’s fingerprint sensor in the months to come. Being that the device is still in the early stages of its release, we really won’t see the full potential of its fingerprint sensor for a while.
The Weight
Let’s face it, no one wants to carry around a smartphone that feels like a brick in their pocket, yet many handsets are incredibly heavy and bulky. Well, you’ll be glad to hear that the new Nexus 5X weighs just 136 grams, according to Google. That’s much lighter than smartphones of similar specs, allowing users to carry the device with greater ease.
The Battery
Yet another feature of the Nexus 5X that we love is the battery. As you may recall, the original Nexus 5 featured a 2,300 mAh battery. It wasn’t the worst battery on the mobile market, but it certainly wasn’t the best. In fact, poor battery life was among the most common complaints that users had. The new Nexus 5X, however, has a larger and more powerful 2,700 mAh battery. Furthermore, Android 6.0 Marshmallow boasts a new energy-saving feature called Doze, which will reportedly improve standby life when the battery reaches 30%, and it will allow for faster charge times.
