Nexus 5X vs Nexus 6P: Which is Best?

nexus 5 imagesIn case you didn’t get the memo, Google unveiled two new smartphones last week: the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. Most people were expecting the Mountain View company to release a new Nexus 5 given the widespread success of the original model. However, the new Nexus 6 was somewhat of a surprise. Nonetheless, consumers are now forced to choose between the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

Size

As you can see from the photo to the right, both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are quite similar in terms of size. At 5.7-inches, however, the Nexus 5P is a bit larger than its counterpart, with has a display of just 5 inches.

Display

The Nexus 5X features a 1080P IPS LCD display, whereas the Nexus 6P features an improved 2K AMOLED display.

Processor

Now let’s talk about what really matters in a smartphone: the processor. Google doesn’t disappoint when it comes to processing power, and these two devices are no exception. The Nexus 5X is powered by a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, similar to the processor used in the popular LG G4. The Nexus 6P, however, has an even faster eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

Random Access Memory

If processing power is the most important feature in a smartphone, RAM isn’t far behind. So, how much RAM do Google’s new handsets sport? Reports indicate that the Nexus 5X has 2GB of RAM, and the Nexus 6P has 3GB. Surprisingly, 2GB is on somewhat on the low end, leaving many people to wonder why Google didn’t use 3GB for both devices. Well, the folks at AndroidPit have tested the RAM in both devices, revealing “there didn’t seem to be a noticeable difference between it and the 5X during our short test period.”

Price

Another key selling point of smartphones is the price. Google has said that the Nexus 5X will start at $379, while the Nexus 6P will start at $400. Keep in mind that these prices reflect the entry-level models. Consumers can expect to pay more if they want a Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P with greater storage capacity.

Internal Storage

As previously stated, internal storage capacity varies depending on the specific model Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P that you purchase. The entry-level model Nexus 5X features 16GB of internal storage, whereas the entry-level Nexus 6P features 32GB. The top-level Nexus 5X, however, has 32GB of internal storage, and the top-level Nexus 6P has a massive 128GB.

Camera

Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have a 12.3-megapixel primary, rear-facing camera alongside dual-LED flash, auto-focus, and a f/2.0 aperture lens. The Nexus 5X also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, while the Nexus 6P has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

Operating System

Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are expected to run Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, the successor to Lollipop.
