Move Over Renderings, This is the REAL Nexus 5

back-of-nexus-5-2015We’ve published several rendered images of Google’s upcoming Nexus 5 handset, giving fans a sneak peak of what the device will look like. Up until now, though, the images have been just that: renderings based on the purported specs. But a new, non-rendered image surfaced online earlier this week, showing what appears to be the 2015 Nexus 5.

Marques Brownlee, who is best known for reviewing smartphones and consumer electronics in self-made YouTube videos, shared a photo yesterday on his Twitter account. As you can see, the photo depicts the back of a smartphone that’s labeled “Nexus,” alongside “NOT FOR SALE.” This alone is enough to make a definitive correlation between it and the new Nexus 5, but there are other hints suggesting that is in face the real deal.

If you compare the photo to some of the rendered images that we’ve previously published, you’ll notice the two are strikingly similar. They both feature a semi-protruding rear-facing camera, LED flash, and a fingerprint scanner.

Along with this revealing image, Brownlee tweeted the following message:

Apparently this is the new Nexus. Looks fine from this angle. Give us more, Mr Blurricam!” wrote Brownlee in the tweet.

As of writing this post, the tweet has since received nearly 3,000 favorites and 2,00 retweets. Of course, this is to be expected since this is most likely the FIRST real image we’ve seen of the new Nexus 5. The rendered images were nice, but they didn’t reveal the actual device. Assuming this tweet is the real deal, this is exactly what the new Nexus 5 will look like.

Unfortunately, Brownlee did not tweet a photo of the front of the device, leaving many people with more questions than answers. How big is the device? Does it run Android 5.0 Lollipop or a newer version of the OS? How big is the screen in relation to the actual device? These are all questions that remain unanswered at this time. What we do know about Google’s upcoming next-generation smartphone is that it will be made in two different versions. LG will be manufacturing one version with a 5.2-inch display, and Huawei will be manufacturing a second version with a larger 5.7-inch display.

So, when can you purchase the new Nexus 5? Google has yet to even acknowledge its existence, let alone mention a release date. However, rumors suggest that Google will launch the highly anticipated handset later this year, with the months of October and November being the most likely. This makes sense considering the fact that Google has released almost every other Nexus handset around this time of year. And with it being right before the holidays, it will almost certainly generate the most sales.
